The Three Sisters

Commission

This commission was made for a wonderful client who needed a place to display a collection of ethnic objects given to her by her grandparents who traveled the world.  After a long, unsuccessful search for the perfect piece, the client was very specific about the design and very involved in the whole process.

Because of her commitment, I named these cabinets "The Three Sisters" after the folklore tale of the Sisters mountains in Oregon.  The story goes that the chief of a native Indian tribe ordered his three daughters to marry and procreate to ensure the tribe's longevity. The eligible bachelors were paraded past the daughters, but they would not choose - too tall, too short, too old, too young....As punishment for their refusal the Shaman turned them into mountains.  The mountains exist today and are beautiful.  They stand proud, a testament to not settling for something less than perfect.

Shortly after I named this piece, my client told me she was pregnant with her third daughter.
